Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Saturday 18.02.2023

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but wind slabs can be present in isolated areas in the alpine.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 17. February 2023

Mountain weather

Friday 17. February 2023

4 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from southeast. -8 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 18. February 2023

5-8 mm precipitation. Rain up to 100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southeast. -7 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
